Simple Camera Mod Splits the Baldur's Gate 3 Community Into Two Camps
Years after launch, Baldur's Gate 3 is still sparking heated conversations, but this time it's not about story or characters — it's about a camera number. A mod recently surfaced that shifts the game's perspective from first-person to third-person, and it's spreading like wildfire through the player community, stirring up a fierce debate: does this tweak improve the experience, or does it kill the game's fundamental spirit?
A Real Split Between Those Who Want Change and Those Who Reject It
The issue isn't as straightforward as it sounds. Some players argue that a third-person camera enhances the visual experience and makes exploration and combat more enjoyable, especially for those used to RPGs with that perspective. But the other side — and they're louder in their defense — flat-out says this warps the original vision that Larian built the entire game around.
In my personal opinion, there's merit to both sides, but we have to face a clear reality: Baldur's Gate 3 was designed from the ground up to be an experience that pulls you into your character's mind and emotions. The first-person camera isn't a random choice — it's woven into the game's narrative and gameplay. Changing it might make the whole thing feel completely different, and that's not always for the better.
Should Larian Listen?
Some players are pushing Larian to officially include this option in their future projects. But I'm going to push back here: not every community request should reshape a developer's vision. If Larian wants to build a game with a specific identity, that's their right, and the choice stays with the player — either experience it the way it was meant to be, or don't play it.
I'd recommend this mod if you want to try something different and you understand you're stepping away from the original vision. But if you want to experience Baldur's Gate 3 the way Larian actually intended it, the default camera is your answer.
