Mastering Aim: The Foundation of Success

Aim, or shooting accuracy, is one of the most important skills every Valorant player must master. Regardless of your knowledge of strategies or positioning, if you can't hit your enemies precisely, your chances of winning will be significantly reduced. In this guide, we'll explore practical methods to noticeably improve your shooting accuracy.

Sensitivity Settings: Getting Started Right

Before beginning any training, you need to choose a mouse sensitivity that suits you. Sensitivity that's too high makes your movements imprecise, while sensitivity that's too low slows down your movements and affects your reaction time.

Finding the Perfect Sensitivity

  • Start with medium sensitivity: Most professional players use sensitivity between 0.4 to 0.8 at 800 DPI
  • Adjust gradually: Change your sensitivity by small increments (only 0.05) and use it for several hours before adjusting again
  • Test in actual matches: Don't rely on feel in practice modes alone—test your settings in real matches
  • Lock in your settings: Once you find the right sensitivity, stick with it for a long period so your muscle memory adapts

Preparing Your Physical Gaming Environment

Your physical surroundings directly impact the quality of your aim.

Your Physical Setup

  • Mouse space: Ensure you have enough space to move, at least 30 cm in all directions
  • Sitting posture: Sit upright and comfortably, with your arm at the same level as your desk
  • Lighting: Make sure your screen is properly displayed without glare or strong reflections
  • Use a wrist rest: It provides comfort and support during long gaming sessions

Practical Aim Improvement Exercises

Simple Tracking Exercise

This exercise helps improve your ability to follow enemy movements. Enter a practice match and focus on tracking the enemy's head without clicking. Try to keep your crosshair on the enemy's head as they move. Repeat this exercise for 10 minutes daily.

Quick Flick Exercise

Test your reaction speed by trying to hit moving targets quickly. Use the Operator or Sheriff in a practice match and target enemies rapidly, but be careful not to overdo it. This teaches you the balance between speed and accuracy.

Distance-Based Shooting Exercise

Practice hitting targets from different distances: very close, medium, and far. Each distance requires different adjustments to your movements. Don't focus only on distances you prefer.

Training During Real Matches

Choose the Right Agents to Improve Your Aim

Some agents require better aim than others. Use agents like Jett or Reyna that focus on accuracy, rather than relying solely on abilities.

Monitor Yourself and Learn from Mistakes

  • Record your matches and rewatch them to identify your weak points
  • Notice in which situations you fail to hit enemies
  • Determine whether the problem is positioning or aim itself

Patience and Consistency Are the Keys to Progress

Improving your aim doesn't happen overnight. You need a daily commitment to practice and continuous training. Many players expect immediate results and give up quickly, but real players understand that skill comes with time and regular practice.

Dedicate 15 minutes daily to training before entering real matches, and maintain this routine for at least a month. You'll notice clear improvement in your accuracy and reaction speed gradually and consistently.
