A new game that tells the origin story of the world's most famous spy
I've played plenty of spy games over the years, but what really grabbed my attention about 007 First Light is that it doesn't tell us the story of the mature, famous James Bond we all know. Instead, it takes us on a different journey — we get to witness the legend being born from scratch. The game launches on May 27, 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and Windows PC.
Who is young James Bond in this story?
The core concept is simple but compelling: you're following James Bond when he's still just a trainee in MI6's intelligence training program. Young Bond here comes across differently — an ambitious character full of resourcefulness and brains, but also sometimes reckless, not yet possessing that cool composure and nerves of steel we know him for later. The game tells the story of his rise and how his personality was shaped to become the most dangerous spy in the world.
Gameplay and experience
007 First Light blends Shooter and adventure elements together. This means the game doesn't just focus on gunplay — it weaves in espionage, action, and exploration. I expected it to be your standard straightforward experience, but the approach seems to aim for real balance between direct action, stealth, and strategic thinking — as befits a proper spy game.
What did critics and specialists say?
The game scored 82 out of 100 from professional critics. That's a solid score, nothing to scoff at — it reflects a strong game in terms of concept and execution, though not without its flaws. Critics bought into the story and premise, but clearly there are aspects — maybe mission variety or some repetitive patterns — that weren't quite perfect.
Would I recommend it?
In my opinion, this game is perfect for anyone who loves the James Bond series and serious spy stories. If you're into stealth games like Hitman or Splinter Cell, you'll find something to love here. But if you're after non-stop action without pause, some of the espionage and stealth sections might feel like they're dragging the pace down.
I'd strongly recommend it to James Bond fans and polished adventure game enthusiasts. Don't hesitate if you own one of the available platforms — an 82 score deserves a real shot.
